What Do Birds Eat?
By: Ashley Kennedy
Every great birder knows that birds eat a variety of food sources, but many underestimate the importance of insects in bird diets. During the breeding season, even birds that primarily eat other food sources will rely on insects as a source of proteins, fats, and nutrients. However there is a great deal we don’t know about which insects are actually being eaten by birds. To help answer the question, ‘What do birds eat?” Ashley Kennedy will discuss her own graduate research with bluebirds as well as what you, as a citizen scientist, can do when you see a bird with an insect in its beak.
